Our Mainstage Season focuses on new work. Plays and musicals are produced for six-week runs at 2nd Stage Theatre and The Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood. Recent seasons included the West Coast Premieres of The Tragedy of JFK (As told by Wm. Shakespeare) by Daniel Henning, A Singular They by Eliza Goldstein, Something Truly Monstrous by Jeff Tabnick, Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers by Michael Lluberes, Dusk Rings A Bell by Stephen Belber, and new plays which were developed in our Living Room Series: The Cost Of The Erection by Pulitzer-Prize Finalist Jon Marans and Sukie & Sue: Their Story by Tony nominee Michael John LaChiusa.
Each June, we produce the 12 best plays by playwrights ages 9 to 19, chosen from a nationwide competition. In the past 27 years, we have produced 308 plays by these young writers.

Nowhere else in the nation can young playwrights receive the prize of seeing their vision come to life on stage in a professional production featuring known actors from film, television and theatre. There are no submission fees for this program.

The Blank’s New Play Development Program embodies our commitment to developing new writers and new works.

Nearly every Monday night, we produce a “workshop” staged reading of a new play with a week of rehearsals. The author is given access to experienced actors and directors who interpret the play and help the writer hone their story.

New plays and playwrights are given a safe and nurturing environment where they can explore their emerging scripts and present them to an audience.

We develop and produce 32 to 36 new plays each year in this program. These productions have consistently gone onto impressive venues around the world such as Manhattan Theatre Club & Transport Group (NYC), Laguna Playhouse, and Brideswell Theatre (London). These presentations are free to the public.

This program includes 8 symposiums with theatre professionals in the first week and then the apprentices become the stage managers, assistant directors, and design assistants and are offered a unique opportunity to work with 12 different directors during the course of the Festival.

This job-training program is free of charge. Visit this page for more details on apprenticeship opportunities.

The Blank is opening our theatrical home on Theatre Row Hollywood (2nd Stage Theatre) to other theatre companies who do not have/cannot afford/have lost their own theatre space.

We offer severely reduced rent (covering our expenses only) to companies of high caliber who need a home to do their work. It allows these theatre professionals to continue to work in Hollywood, which has been losing theatres and companies at an alarming rate.
