VASANTI SAXENA (she/her) is a Los Angeles based writer whose work explores the fissures of family and relationships, memory, and historical legacy. Her plays have been produced/developed at Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, Chicago Dramatists, Silk Road Rising, Boston Court Pasadena, Chalk Rep, Company of Angels, East West Players, Lower Depth Theatre, The Road Theatre, and Santa Monica Rep.
Vasanti is currently developing her new play, Footsteps, as part of Lower Depth Theatre's "Cycle of Poverty" commission. OtherPlays include Here Is Where, Sun Sisters (East West Players Pacific Century Playwriting Competition winner, O'Neill National Playwrights Conference and Princess Grace Award semi-finalist), Closing Time, Tar Pits and Wounds, and Weekend Getaway. Sun Sisters is published in Contemporary Plays by Women of Color (London, UK: Routledge 2017) and Closing Time appears in The Best 10-Minute Plays 2011 (Smith and Kraus). Fellowships and commissions include the Outfest Screenwriting Lab, NYTW Emerging Artist of Color Fellowship, and an EST/Sloan commission. A graduate of Brown University, Vasanti holds an MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University.
